Meet the Founders
Prolific Maine restaurateur Walter Loeman has partnered with Dorian Lewis to open Walter’s Cafe in a leased space in the Tontine Mall in Brunswick. An opening in June is planned.
Walter’s Cafe will be a counter service cafe serving soups, stews, salads, sandwiches and drinks along with grab and go foods to go. This menu will evolve with the seasons.
Co-creator Lewis, in Retail, is planning to offer a range of items such as chocolates, cheeses, charcuterie, coffee, other Maine foods, and select artisan goods.
Four organic Maine farms (Whatley, Six Rivers, Goranson, Morning Dew) will be featured as purveyors, as part of the Cafe’s mission is to showcase the bounty of local foods and Maine farms. Loeman and Lewis hope to create a community space where people will want to remain for a time and return often.
Loeman has been a member of the Maine restaurant community dating back to the 1980s when he launched the Mariner’s Church Bakery and was the co-creator of the original Walter’s Cafe on Exchange Street. In addition he’s the founder of the Farm Truck Institute.
Lewis, a gardening wizard, runs the retail section and has filled the space with color, greenery, farmy antiques and is a warm and welcoming Front of House presence.
